1st Drive: 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring

March 26th, 2019 by

On the second episode of 1st Drive, I ventured out to give my first impressions of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Reserve. The new 2019 model has an all-new turbocharged engine. I had a lot of fun doing this review because I drive a CX-5 as my personal vehicle and I love it!

The front of the CX-5 has an all-black grille with a large Mazda emblem in the center. The large grille, along with the sleek LED headlights and fog lights give the front of the CX-5 an aggressive look. This Grand Touring Reserve model comes with 19” gray aluminum wheels. Also, it has body-colored mirrors and door handles, with the mirrors being heated and power-folding.
The all black leather interior with wood-like wood trims makes the cabin of the CX-5 comfortable and sophisticated. One of my favorite little features of the CX-5 are the automatic one-touch down/up windows. The Grand Touring model has the upgraded Bose sound system.

TECH STUFF

The CX-5 is equipped with Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE safety features, so there are buttons for lane keeping assist and traction control. You will also find the button for the power liftgate beside the LKA and traction control buttons. Steering-wheel mounted controls allow drivers to easily control Bluetooth voice controls, the infotainment screen, audio, and cruise control. The entertainment system in the Mazda CX-5 starts with a 7” screen that protrudes up from the dashboard. Everything is controlled by a dial-knob mounted in front of the middle armrest. The new CX-5 is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. The Grand Touring model has dual-climate control, a heated steering wheel, and heated and cooled front seats.

One thing Mazda seems to do better than its competitors is equip its vehicles with heated backseats. In the fold-down middle armrest in the backseat of the CX-5 Grand Touring you will find the button to control the heated backseats. The CX-5 has plenty of cargo space, especially when you fold the backrow. The 40/20/40 split gives you more versatility when configuring the back of your CX-5 for hauling.
